Polymerase Chain Reaction Protocols

PCR is the foundation for everything we will do ever so it's important to understand what it is. Below are some links on the basic principles and practice of pcr; as we begin our own protocols their specific steps will be recorded here.

I would start here for a nice intro to the basic applications of PCR.

The wikipedia page on PCR is good; I would skip the sections on 'variants' and history. Also their page on cloning genes into cells is good, and subcloning, all of which we'll probably end up using.

A good animation on basic PCR

Malaria

The malaria group has found that malaria would be a poor target as the protazoan is never found in the water during its lifecycle. Our new target is typhoid or cholera.
