Our team is the fist University of Sheffield iGEM Team. Establishing it was a student initiative. However, majority of us are first year undergrads without any experience in running lab project (yet!). When we decided to start we did not expect how complicated, hard, entertaining and rewarding being a scientist can be. If we only knew what we should do and what not to do our last few months would be much easier. Because of that we decided to describe the process of establishing the Brand New iGEM Team from the scratch. Here you can find exact story how the idea was born and how many doors we knocked (and how hard) to make it alive. This is not only the list of things you have to do get tho the MIT. Those are obvious: gather a team, invent an idea, enter the lab, collect results, make a presentation, fly to USA and win. Real fun starts when you want to execute those things without previous experience! We wish that our notebook will make life easier for those who decide to take part in iGEM in the future!

A Noob's Guide to starting an iGEM team
