Polymerase Chain Reaction Protocols
PCR is the foundation for everything we will do ever. Below are some links on the basic principles and practice of pcr; as we begin our own protocols those specific steps will be recorded here.
I would start [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5yPkxCLads here] for a nice intro to the historical context of PCR.
The [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCR wikipedia page on PCR] is good; I would skip the sections on 'variants' and history. Also their page on [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molecular_cloning cloning genes into cells] is good, and [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subcloning subcloning], all of which we'll probably end up using. And [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bacterial_artificial_chromosome BACs] and [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yeast_artificial_chromosome YACs].

Malaria
The malaria group has found that malaria would be a poor target as the protazoan is never found in the water during its lifecycle. Our new target is typhoid or cholera.
