These are the minutes for the iGem meeting for our weekly Monday Noon Meeting.

Present: Tim G., Lisa Ledger, Tin Vo, Dave Johnston, Eddie Ma.

Regrets: Jen Vo, we wish her well on her exam.

On Friday, Dave, Brendan and Ed checked out the results of an E. coli transformation. The colonies were dispersed and growing in colloid, so the final step was to centrifuge and look at the colour of the pellet. Unfortunately, it wasn't red but Dave is hopeful since it turns out we can use a different more compatible strain of E. coli. Apparently, membrane folds are good for storing carotenoids-- the strain he suggests has such a folding characteristic.

Check out Dave's GMO Carotenoids paper.

Lisa and Tim are continuing forward with their vitamin A transfomation project (Team Synthetic Operon), and will be discussing cloning strategies this week. Lisa and Tim will hopefully have a presentation about Synthetic Operon's procedure to the team so that we would all have a good idea about how the transformation, operon construction etc. will proceed [See Upcoming - Top].

Team Synthetic Operon will be working with a broad host range plasmid to try and transform a gram negative and a gram positive bacterium as a proof of concept that this operon can function in both kinds of bacteria.

Thanks, Ed.
