Baby Steps
- Sign up for [http://www.hawaii.edu/ehso/lab/training.htm Lab Safety] & [http://www.hawaii.edu/ehso/bio/training.htm Bio Safety] classes, submit certification to Jamie Allison
- Time Management: Learn how to manage your time efficiently (and not waste others) from [http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5784740380335567758&hl=en this lecture]; skills that you can use for the rest of your career.
- Initial Reading
- Read Biobrick Technical Manual, don't worry about understanding every last bit of technical details.
- Wiki By Example: Look at Harvard iGEM 2006 [http://openwetware.org/wiki/IGEM:Harvard/2006/Cyanobacteria/Notebook team lab notebook], get an idea with what they do in the lab on a daily basis. They worked with cyanobacteria as well, but did not transforming it. They ended up extracting genes from cyano- and transformed E. coli.
- Brainstorm
- Brainstorm and get some ideas what you would like to do for project part-B. Look at previous iGEM [http://parts.mit.edu/igem07/index.php/IGEM2007_Team_List team pages]/[http://parts.mit.edu/igem07/index.php/Presentations presentations] for ideas.
- Bonus Videos: Understanding why we are even in this BioBricks competition!
