iGem Meeting Minutes 5/27/08

Meeting began at 3:10.

  • 3:10 Aleem contacted the President of iBio. He is willing to help us out, not monetarily, but in other ways.
    • We can buy supplies from on campus stores now!
  • 3:15 We went over the list of Issues : post list HERE
    • Professor Input:
      • modulate the project
      • Directed Evolution seems practical
      • learn basic DNA manipulation techniques
        • Ask Dr. Rao
        • We will not replicate the experiments that were done because it may be a waste of money. Later experiments will be similar but require slightly different materials
    • most likely, we will begin with Typhoid because it has been well-studied
    • When talking to other professors, make sure to go with a list of questions and take good notes
    • Ask Dr. Zhao about other protein receptors in yeasts
    • Lab groups should make sure to post exact protocols on the wiki
  • 3:55 Student Meeting
    • discussed how we are going to tackle the rest of the project
    • We will have weekly cram sessions starting tomorrow night at 5
      • find exact protocol for binding a protein to a vesicle
      • find out how to store and culture yeast
