Possible modeling applications could be utilized in order to determine concentrations and energies of mixing. Other modeling tools could visually map the regulatory pathway of gene regulation in these modified prokaryotes.

The figure below from Inan et al shows growth of Pichia pastoris in the presence of various carbon sources. Part B illustrates the diauxic growth response to methanol and ethanol in which methanol (closed inverted triangles) is not consumed until ethanol (closed squares) is consumed.
