Multi-cell Model
Our timer consist of accumulating molecules of HSL, which are in fact signaling molecules. This means that they are used by cells to communicate with each other by diffusing in the environment. It might be a good idea to simulate the behaviour of a colony (at least more than 1) of cells in a diffusive environment and see what happens...
2 cells in a medium
This small example leads to a simple conclusion: this analysis is unnecessary. Even when there is possible diffusion of HSL molecules to the environment, it won't happen because of the exces amount of LuxR molecules. LuxR will immediately bind the available HSL molecules (very high association rate) and no HSL will diffuse.
