The pUC control contained 25 colonies, and the positive control without antibiotics had a smear of bacterial colonies. The rest of the plates again were empty. This implies the competent cells do grow and can take up vectors, i.e. are indeed competent cells. However, there is no success in transforming these cells with DNA of the iGEM spots.
