The ultimate proof of principle would obviously be a colored E.coli colony. However, we are looking into ways to obtain evidence for individual working enzymes. This would be convenient for us in case of a negative result, as we would like to know where along the pathway it goes wrong. Furthermore, some enzymatic assays could yield parameters for the modeling guys.

What kind of enzymatic assays could be used is now a topic of investigation.
